In the 20 th century, when the international community urgently felt need for consolidation and unification of efforts to resolve global issues, was formed the branch of international law designed to regulate social relations in order to effectively use, reproduction, protection of natural resources, to ensure the stability of the environment, guaranteeing environmental safety, environmental protection realization of rights.

In the process of the formation and development of international environmental law were developed its own branch principles, important role in the formulation of which have played a UN conferences in 1972 and 1992.Among the specific principles of international environmental law are:

  • the right of everyone to a healthy life in harmony with nature
  • priority environmental rights and interests of people in the process of continuous socio-economic development
  • inalienable sovereignty of States over their own natural resources
  • stable, environmentally grounded, social and economic development
  • equal environmental safety (environmental well-being of one country can not be ensured by or in isolation from other states or other)
  • regular exchange of information on the environmental situation at the national or regional level
  • prevention of causing transboundary environmental damage
  • cooperation in environmental emergency
  • scientific and technical cooperation in the field of environmental protection
  • monitoring compliance with agreed requirements for environmental protection

Protecting the environment and human rights are equally important both at international and national levels. And given the impact of the environment on quality of life, the closest attention to it is a priority of society.
